Scalp vein set
A winged infusion set, sometimes called a “butterfly” or “scalp vein set,” is a specialized device used for venipuncture—getting access to a vein
It has a hypodermic needle, two flexible “wings” (like a butterfly), a short, flexible, transparent tube (usually 20-35 cm long), and a female Luer connector.
It’s specifically designed for accessing superficial veins, either for injecting medication intravenously or for drawing blood (phlebotomy).
In newborns and infants, especially when it’s hard to find a vein in the arms or legs, the scalp veins are often a good option.
